Acts 5:38 "Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”
I'm in Brookhaven, MS this morning. I got up and started reading Acts. So many things jumped out but chapter 5 is full. It starts off with the demonstration of how powerful the Holy Spirit is. Ananias and his wife decided to sell their property and give it to the church. But something happened when he got the actual money in his hand. They decided that no one needed to know exactly how much they got and hid some back for themselves. So then they go and give it to Peter and John and say it's everything. Now Peter and John know the power and vengence of the Spirit and that they are lying and give them a chance to come clean. When they repeat the lie the Spirit kills them. You know,.. you can do a lot of bad things to everyone but you do not blaspheme or grieve the Holy Spirit.
The part I posted is at the end of Acts 5 when Peter and John were brought before the high priests you see the Spirit intervene. As said, God's word will never return void.
